International conference of Islamic art and architecture
A three-day international conference on Islamic art and architecture held at the National College of Arts (NCA) on
13 November 2008. The Higher Education Commission, the Punjab
University and the Lahore Museum also assisted the NCA in organizing
the conference. The conference aimed to promote research projects
and workshops. Distinguished scholars from Bangladesh, India,
Jordan, Canada, Iran, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, the United Arab
Emirates and Pakistan presented their papers at the conference.
The first conference in this series was initiated by Iran in
December 2006 and was held in Isfahan, which was followed by the
second in Delhi, India in December 2007. The third International
Conference on Islamic Art and Architecture held in Lahore in November 2008.
The vision of the conference was to help create awareness of the rich cultural heritage of Islamic Art and Architecture by deliberating upon its relevance to the contemporary world. The conference also aimed to promote and encourage collaborative research projects and workshops.
The main theme of the third conference was Islamic Art and Architecture: Living tradition and its relevance to the contemporary world.
The conference also reviewed the theoretical and ideological framework of Islamic Art and Architecture as a living tradition
The main objectives of the conference were:
• To create an awareness and enrich the knowledge of students, faculty and professionals to the rich cultural heritage of Islamic Art and Architecture, and how was Islam the reason for such development.
• Create bonding between various countries and people and focus on the commonalities of different Islamic cultures.
• Collaboration between different institutions promoting faculty and student exchange programs.
• Joint research projects and workshops between various Universities and Colleges. |
