Salahuddin Mian

(1938-2006)

Pakistan's first ceramic artist

Education

He graduated from Government School in Kasur. In 1958, he joined the National College of Arts (NCA), where he studied under the Japanese ceramist, Koichi Takita Sensei. He was awarded the Fullbright Scholarship in 1965. He started his teaching career at NCA in 1963. He retired in 1998 as head of the department. Sheherezade Alam and Salman Ikram, are also his students.

Salahuddin Mian -  A Retrospective

The Indus Valley School of Arts and Architecture organised a retrospective exhibition to commemorate the work of Mian Salahuddin. The event exhibited Mian Salahuddin’s work in the form of a book called ‘Born of Fire’, a documentary called ‘Yeh Kiya Hai’ and an exhibition displaying his work gathered from a number of collectors and admirers. The show launched January 28, 2008 in Karachi and then in lahore Monday, 19th May 2008 Zahoor Ul Akhlaq gallery, National Collage of Arts, Lahore.
